My kitchen makeover/ almost break up story.

Inspiration:
Grey, Gold, Tan ..mixed with a Pop of White.
I'm about to show y'all a picture of my old kitchen.
Although it looks kinda dated, my Hubby and I were once Very Proud of this dark space that provided such warmth and comfort to our simple ranch style home.
Something about the old wood cabinets mixed with the glow of the pendant and handmade valence.
It was complete coziness for us.
here it is..
Almost 10 years later..
I now have two kids and I'm ALWAYS in the kitchen! Literally!
My taste has started changing too.   I'm suddenly inspired by Modern.
(maybe it has something to do with pinterest..or 50 shades.ha!)
But Nothing will ever compare to the character that can only be found in the OLD!
Therefore.. my mission was to create a ModCot kitchen.
(modern cottage)
And I knew what had to be done.
It was time to convince the hubby to paint our REAL WOOD cabinets WHITE.
A Big fat Change that almost swung us into a complete break-up!
I'll never forget our faces when we walked into our house after the painter left.
Complete silence.

Just not Complementing the back splash..at all!!!
NOT COZY and NOT CUTE!
He lost all trust in me :(
 NEXT:

Convincing the hubby to Cover HIS tile .
The tile back splash that he put HIS sweat and blood into 8 years ago.
This took quite the bribery ladies..lol
I'm not talking regular tile..I'm talking super modern tile
And i think you've figured out that I have one of those husbands who has to have an opinion on the decorating, (sigh)
(This is supposed to be MY thing!!)
Grrrr

I decided to keep the farm style faucet.
mission: Old mixed with modern
THE BIGGEST BLOW UP of ALL:
Convincing my husband that we now needed to DRAW stripes on our NEW kitchen Cabinets.
You can only imagine ... lol!!

I just knew it needed something!
We took the risk and....
HE Loves it.
Yes! 1 point

My old farm table got a swish of paint too.
No fight..yay!
I started gaining his trust at this point!

                                              The 'thingy' above the window..?
                                                                  I bet you're wondering!
This is a{ Nester  }knock off.
A little decoration she made for a book party.
I fell in love and had to make one!  Yep..she  has a tutorial
Mine looks kinda weird, but it was cute for the pinterest party i had.
(Coming down soon, just not sure what will take it's place.)

My morning oatmeal goes here.
And coffee cups are always in reach!
Not sure on cabinet handles yet!
I kinda want to do the Unthinkable!
Mixing Metals
Stainless steel bar pulls that totally clash with the oil rubbed bronze faucet and fixtures.
can it be done?
I'm thinking yes!:)

In case you're wondering about my white strand of Christmas lights on the counter..
Lets just say..
I didn't have the heart to ask him for one more thing.
(Under Counter mounted lights will have to wait.)
I put these up before the pinterest party.

But not being so pushy paid off!  I actually like the sparkle it gave
Kinda reminds me of the  'Old Warm Glow.
:)

The best part..I feel like I can finely see in here!
Brighter Kitchen makes for Brighter memories.

it looks amazing! What color did you use on your table? I have a table just like that I have been holding off painting, but seeing your one makes me want to paint mine!

Really enjoy catching up on what you have done. Love the kitchen make-over. Haven't seen any kitchens done in these colors. Very pleasing to the eyes. Great job once again, Buffy.
